Installing solar panels can save you money, but it cannot compromise on safety.
Everyone should have solar panels on their roof. Especially in Australia where we get an efficiency boost in even the most basic solar system as a result of being three-quarters of a mile from the surface of the sun.
For commercial and industrial buildings, however, it may not be a case of simply getting a contractor to quickly throw up an array of panels and hook into the grid. Many of these buildings will have permanent, height safety or roof access systems installed that need to be kept in a safe and compliant state.
This piece, for Height Safety Engineers, explains some common issues that arise when solar panels are installed without consideration given to those existing systems.
