Our history

Motoring Journalism

From 2014 until 2018, Matthew worked as a staff writer (one of a few hats he wore) for the motoring website CarsGuide. From 2018, he occasionally can be found in print at The Redline offering opinions on his sport of choice – car racing.

Matthew’s collected works at both CarsGuide and The Redline can be found through the links below.

Website Copywriting

At the start of 2019, Matthew began a two-month contract to update the website for the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. They liked his work so much they extended the contract to include doing the same for the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah, and then again to rebuild the New Year’s Eve micro-site for the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

Working on these projects involved re-writing existing website copy to improve its SEO value, while at the same time engaging with a range of internal stakeholders to ensure the new websites contained correct information and met their departmental requirements. Matthew also wrote new copy where required, with a strong focus on turning jargon-laden text into accessible and readable copy for visitors to the websites.

Most recently, Matthew has been working at the Elbon Group of Companies where he’s heading up their newly-formed digital marketing department. His role involves completely rebuilding the organisation’s three websites, developing a digital marketing strategy and improving their social media output and engagement.

The unique challenge of this project is writing copy that is engaging for a visitor to the website, maximising the amount of time they spend on the site discovering the company’s offerings, while working closely with the compliance officer to ensure rules surrounding what can be said in relation to a Registered Training Organisation are followed accurately.

Matthew’s first redeveloped website – for Elbon’s Firefect brand – went live just prior to Christmas 2020, with new websites for Height Safety Engineers and Australian Safety Systems to follow in 2020.

Website copy for Height Safety Engineers’ training department has also been written and added into the existing website. Again, this required consultation with the training department and RTO compliance officer as part of its development.
